Mobilizing Your Operations
At Cargas, we are always thinking and looking at new ways where we can leverage new technology at a lower cost so our customers can get more bang for the buck. With this in mind, Cargas has partnered with Motion Computing and have rolled out their new CL-900 Rugged Tablet to a number of customers in 2011. In order to accomplish this, Cargas has taken upon the task of rewriting our integration with Electronic Meters/Registers like the Liquid Controls Register 2 (LCR II). Because the new Motion CL-900 does not have standard Serial Ports seen in other devices, we decided to use Bluetooth as a wireless way to communicate with the Truck Registers/Meters.
What does this mean for your business? How can it impact your operations in a positive way? Well, since Apple has spurred the growth of the Tablet market (which has been in existence for about 10 years in niche areas), other vendors have created rugged devices that are geared towards field operations. These devices are much less expensive than rugged laptops and thus have opened up opportunities to deploy these in Delivery Trucks and Service Vehicles that never existed before.
In the first full year after introducing the iPad, Apple has sold 32 Million of the iconic devices or roughly over two thirds of the entire Tablet market place. For the first time ever analysts expect the sales of Tablets in 2012 to exceed the sales in terms of dollars and units of typical PC’s.
These new devices lower the hardware cost to outfit a Delivery Truck with our real time Mobile Applications from almost $5,000 to less than $2,500 per vehicle. Saving 50% of the cost to implement mobile technology is a win-win for everyone. There is tremendous benefit with deploying this technology so we want to make it a cost effective, simple and easy process.
This has taken a considerable amount of time and effort, including testing through our new, rigorous Quality Assurance process, resulting in 4 new Cargas Energy customers successfully using the device in the field in 2011. There is even more potential for field personnel through CRM (Customer Relationship Management) to perform Energy Audits or creation of Sales Quotes for new equipment sales that will help encourage growth.
